When I pirate sees a cargo ship.. do they automatically think $$$$$?

Its like these cargo ships are mobile banks to them without a bank vault.

Whats funny is a bank will have more security and protection than a cargo ship. Yet the cargo ship is carrying much more resources than a bank and doesn't even have any security personnel onboard.

I can't understand why cargo ships travel around the Horn of Africa without being armed to the teeth..When I pirate sees a cargo ship.. do they automatically think $$$$$?
Yes.

The security for cargo ships is almost nonexistent today.

With respect to the responder who said these were Somali Waters, that is nonsense.

The Piracy is occurring over 500 miles from the Somali Coast. That is International Water not Somali.

As the ships move their travel further from the Somali Coast the Somali Pirates follow them farther out to sea.

The argument that this is Somali Water is nothing more than a Red Herring Argument to justify Somali Piracy.

If Somalia did claim that water as their own, they would be at war with the rest of the World and they would lose that War.When I pirate sees a cargo ship.. do they automatically think $$$$$?
First off the pirates don't automatically assume there's money on every cargo ship or expect it. They know that the is pretty much no security and will raid it and get money by holding one or more of the ships personel hostage and demand ransom and a way out.I think the maritime law, sea laws, should demand ship to have a security detail on these ships to ensure safe transport of the cargo and any other types of vessels any where in the world. I think your last statement was a good and should be brought up by people to Obamas eyes. Too bad, he's probably to lazy or inexperienced to handle something as 'big' as this
These ';pirates '; are former fishermen and their fishing waters were predated by big factory ships,thats why they turned to piracy.

';In a long interview with McClatchy at the jailhouse in Mandhera, an austere desert fortress in the autonomous northern region of Somaliland, where British forces held Italian POWs during World War II, Eid related what amounts to the pirates' creation myth, in which overfishing by European and Asian trawlers drove Somalia's coastal communities to ruin and forced local fishermen to fight for their livelihoods.

';Now the international community is shouting about piracy. But long before this, we were shouting to the world about our problems,'; said Eid, a bony-cheeked former lobsterman with a bushy goatee. ';No one listened.';

When huge foreign trawlers suddenly began appearing, the local fishermen who plied their trade with simple nets and small fiberglass boats were wiped out, Eid said.

';They fished everything 鈥?sharks, lobsters, eggs,'; he recalled. ';They collided with our boats. They came with giant nets and swept everything out of the sea.';

Some ports wont allow armed ships to dock. My understanding is that this includes if you take the weapons off the deck.
Look at what Obama just did to the last ones.

He's very tough on terrorists and pirates.
I doubt BO will allow this because he is very soft on terrorism and pirates...
