I'm looking for good mpg, environmentally friendly, excellent in the snow/mountains (hence the AWD), plenty of cargo space, and handles like a decent sport car, not a marshmallow-y SUV. Oh, yeah and I'm not loaded with cash...Know of an AWD hybrid car/suv, that has tight steering and suspension, good cargo space and doesn't cost 40k?
I think that the Honda CR-V and Acura RDX best fit your criteria. Although they're not hybrids they do get respectable mpg. They handle fairly well for a SUV/SAV and are quite affordable.Know of an AWD hybrid car/suv, that has tight steering and suspension, good cargo space and doesn't cost 40k?
The only one I can think of is a 300 series Lexus... but the price does not compensate for potential savings unless you drive 50K/year or more.
While it is admirable to want good mpg, I don't think it is worth it to get a hybrid SUV or AWD vehicle because the mileage boost is not much to compensate for the high cost. Getting a hybrid is most effective for tiny cars like the Prius. The bigger the car gets, the more having a hybrid is just to say ';Look I bought a hybrid'; than to really get better mileage.
well, the only HYBRID cars and SUVs currenlty on the market are:
Toyota - Prius and Highlander and Camry, also Lexus small SUV (same as a Highlander)
Honda - Civic and Accord
Ford - Escape (small SUV) - also maybe Mazda SUV (small).
that's about it for right now....
For just AWD small vehicles...
check out Jeep - the Compass and Patriot are available AWD....
don't know why you don't like Subaru - but that's another great source for AWD vehicles...
You're probably NEVER going to find all of what you're looking for....
If you want better cargo space - you have to go with the SUV... most SUVs are softer on the ride because that's what the American Public wants to buy....
if you want one that handles like a sports car - you can look at the Mitsubishi (Lancer) Evo (evolution).. but this is a small 4 door sedan... but it is based upon the Mitusbishi Lancer RALLY car....
Good MPG means you're going to be looking on the less powerful side of things - like the Toyota Rav-4, Honda CRV and such... small, economical.... But they're still ';trucklettes'; and will have MPG issues....
Even though you don't like Subaru - that's going to be your best combination.... a Legacy wagon or and Outback.... maybe a WRX wagon....
Try Hyundia Santa Fe or Veracruz
