Gladiators: what's so hard about climbing the cargo net?

there is a cargo net in the final obstacle course, in the US i think it's 30m, UK i think a little shorter.

forgive me, but it just doesn't look that hard! yet all the contenders, even Trojan, seem to have serious difficulty with it, and are often exhausted after climbing it.

help me out here...is it not just like climbing a ladder??Gladiators: what's so hard about climbing the cargo net?
It is just like climbing a Rope ladder yes, but not a solid one!

The thing with climbing flexible things like that is that your legs end up pushing the rope/rungs away from you, so that you end much more horizontal than vertical, and using your arms a lot more than your legs. This is basically the same as climbing an overhang in rock climbing, which if you've ever tried it, is definitely a lot more difficult than climbing vertical or forward-sloping rock!Gladiators: what's so hard about climbing the cargo net?
You would think so, but having tried it, its actually the flexability in it that creates the difficulty. The fact that it sways back and forth means that you arent able to apply perfectly downward pressure, ( in order to push yourself up) as you would a solid ladder, this slows your progress down and bad technique shows more the quicker you attempt to do it.
Try it, my friend. It is hader than you might imagine. A ladder doesn't flex and swing to absorb your energy and deflect the direction of your thrust.
